How accurate is a forecast a month out? ›

A seven-day forecast can accurately predict the weather about 80 percent of the time and a five-day forecast can accurately predict the weather approximately 90 percent of the time. However, a 10-day—or longer—forecast is only right about half the time.

Unfortunately, the answer is not very reliable.

10-day forecasts have an accuracy rate of about 50%. That means about half of the time you look at the 10-day forecast, it will not be correct.

For both 24-hour high- and low-temperature forecasts, AccuWeather was the most accurate provider with the lowest average of absolute error and the greater percentage of forecast accuracy within 3 degrees of actual temperature observations.

Even now five-day weather forecasts are about 90% accurate, but 10-day forecasts are more like 50%. Anything beyond that becomes speculative. The Met Office and others do now issue long-term forecasts, but these give probabilities rather than making exact predictions.

Weather Channel would be the most accurate. For a period of fifty-eight days, data was collected from all three companies regarding temperature, humidity, and wind speed.

The answer? An “80% chance of rain” means an 80% chance that rain will fall somewhere within the forecasted area. Rain refers to 0.01 inch or more of water falling from the sky.

40 to 60% chance, meaning that there's a good chance for a. few showers and storms. that could really start to impact your day. And then numerous or widespread. 70 to 100% chance of rain.

What it means is that for a particular location in the forecast area the chance of measurable precipitation is 50% for the forecast period (also a 50% chance there would be no measurable precipitation). It could rain, but the amount might not be measurable.

An assessment from the Post determined that the 45-day forecasts were not even able to predict trends accurately, and that, although the forecasts did not decrease in accuracy with time, the forecasts were so far off even in the short range as to be useless.

While the goal is always 100%, this can easily be seen as far out of reach. It is thus widely suggested that any percentage north of 70% is a good forecast accuracy percentage. However, this benchmark does have certain factors affecting it, such as industry and demand.

Additionally, the Almanac's predictions cover broad regions and may not be precise for a particular location. Despite the skepticism, the Almanac does have a track record of making accurate predictions claiming to be 80% accurate.
