All-Star line up Jack Nicklaus helps comedian Bob Hope line up a putt yesterday during the Memorial Tournament pro-am round at Muirfield Golf Club In Dublin, O. Duffers' derby gets down to nitty gritty COMPILED FROM WIRE REPORTS Four finalists have been selected in Golf Digest's search for America's Worst Avid Golfer. Kelly Ireland of Tyler, Joel Mosser of Aurora, Angelo Spagnolo of Fayette City, and Jack Pulford of Moline, will compete June 19 over 18 holes at the Tournament Players Club course in Sawgrass, Fla. The golfer with the highest score will be proclaimed America's Worst Avid Golfer.

Bill Bates of Frederick, was selected as a first alternate. The finalists, each with a certified 36 handicap, were selected from a field of 627 nominees submitted by readers of the magazine. Each was "judged on his inadequacies as well as his love for the game and his sense of humor," the magazine said. Fenway Park will get a fresh face The Boston Red Sox are planning a new look for 73-year-old Fenway Park, major league baseball's smallest stadium with a seating capacity of 33,563. The Red Sox have announced that the firm of Howard Needles Tammen and Bergendoff has been retained "to develop a program for renovations, repairs and future planning of Fenway Park." The park was built in 1912 and reconstructed in 1934.

It has undergone changes, including the installation of luxury boxes on the roof, in recent years. Needles Tammen and Bergendoff is noted nationally as a leader in the planning and design of major sports and entertainment facilities. The firm designed and built Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.; the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex in Kansas City, B.C. Place Stadium in Vancouver; and The Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis.

The firm also renovated Yankee Stadium and Wrigley Field. Cosmos suffering 'foot in mouth'? conflict with the player's role as captain of the United States national team. That means Davis would be available to play only about three of the 11 matches the Cosmos have scheduled. Quotable. General Manager Dave DeBusschere of the New York Knicks, when asked before the Knicks won the NBA lottery whether he ever had won anything at a drawing: "I think I once won a set of club-head covers at a golf tournament." 1: With all the embarrassing news they have been subjected to in recent months, the New York Cosmos can't really use any more.

But that's what happened when Peppe Pinton, the team's managing director, announced recently that he had obtained the services of Rick Davis for a series of international matches this summer. When Davis got word of the announcement, he denied any such "deal and reacted furiously. "This is an embarrassment for the he said. "I guess they're desperate for some credibility, but something like this I think alienates the fans." Pinton insists there is an agreement, though he acknowledges that nothing has been signed. The deal was worked out, he says, between himself and Davis' agent, George Kalafatis of the Cleveland-based International Management Group.

But says that, from the start of the talks, he made it clear that Davis would be available only for games whose dates did not GLAD YOU ASKED I have a $15 bet that Larry Parrish of the Texas Rangers and Lance Parrish of the Detroit Tigers are brothers.
