Soccer Aid viewers issued the same complaint just minutes into the ITV show. Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2024 aired on Sunday evening (June 9) with Dermot O'Leary and Alex Scott hosting live from Stamford Bridge.

The celebrities taking part include returning stars Usain Bolt, Sir Mo Farah, Roman Kemp and Martin Compston. New signings include cricketer Stuart Broad, I'm A Celebrity star Sam Thompson, Strictly Come Dancing's Bobby Brazier and former Chelsea footballer Eden Hazard.

But before the game kicked off, viewers questioned the state of the football pitch as it was covered in brown patches. Writing on social media, one wrote: "The pitch looks awful! It’s 5% grass and 95% mud #SoccerAid."

A second agreed: "Stamford Bridge pitch looks absolutely f***ed, what a mess. Might as well play this #socceraid game on a Sunday league pitch."

"State of the pitch at Stamford Bridge #socceraid," declared another fan. A fourth queried: "Did they just stop watering the pitch at Stamford Bridge since the season ended?"

Someone else weighed in: "What the hell has happened to the pitch at Stamford Bridge…. I’ve never seen it like that." Meanwhile another echoed: "Why is the pitch at Stamford Bridge SO BAD #socceraid."

Former Chelsea player and manager Frank Lampard joins Harry Redknapp and Robbie Williams as England manager. They will be going up against Mauricio Pochettino, returning as manager for Soccer Aid World XI.

Ahead of the huge event, King of the Jungle showered his co-star Bobby with praise as he branded him "unbelievable" at football.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, the 31-year-old said: "Bobby is unbelievable at football! Frank Lampard is there going 'well done Bobby! Well done Bob!'"

A thrilled Bobby instantly smiled, admitting it was a "big moment" to get the seal of approval from Frank. The 21-year-old quipped: "I love football. I've loved it forever!

"I haven't been able to play for a couple of years so to come here and be able to play on a surface like this too, it's great." Both Bobby and Sam said it is an "honour" to be taking part in Soccer Aid.
