How to get Vexcalibur in Destiny 2 (2024)

Destiny 2: Lightfall brought a surprise and rather hidden exotic to the table this season. Players discovered glowing lights dotted around the EDZ that, when grabbed within a time limit, opened up a new questline. The lights had no explanation, no guidance markers, and had guardians scratching their heads. It turns out that the node.ovrd.AVALON mission that came from this odd quest was how to get Vexcalibur in Destiny 2. — a new Exotic Glaive with which you wreak fresh havoc.

With this Exotic, even beginning the mission is a bit of a trick. First, you’ll want to drop down into the Gulch on the EDZ and complete the time trial. Jumping and gliding around the light sources will eventually unlock a new section in a cave. This will be marked on the map as the beginning of the node.ovrd.AVALON quest. Completion of this quest will award you with a new Exotic weapon and some other goodies.

  1. Enter the cave to the east of the Gulch.
  2. Locate the entrance to the mission area and drop down through the gravity well.
  3. Work your way through the tunnels making sure to avoid the damaging liquid as much as possible. You will be able to find the right path by keeping an eye out for small green lights that illuminate the way.

The first arena will be marked with a Banner, so make sure to use it. After defeating the first wave of enemies, you will notice that there is a pillar with a square, a diamond, and a pyramid. These must be shot in a specific order. The order will be displayed around the arena — work top to bottom. This puzzle is repeated again in the next room.

Some dexterity will be required to get through into the next area. Narrow ledges and a map dedicated to throwing you into the abyss will test your patience. After this, you will have a short amount of time to collect together data dropped by dead Vex and deposit it in a central area. Once you have collected enough of the glowing purple nodes, you must stand in the area to drop to the next level.

There is a final boss for this section. Once you have killed it, look for a vertical split in the wall and head through there to the final battle.

This is where Variant Stalker Brakion, Repurposed Mind, resides. He is the final boss and the key to getting the Vexcalibur in Destiny 2. As soon as he loads in, focus all your most damaging weapons on it. Try to lower its heath to the first third marker as soon as possible. Once you hit this level of damage it will teleport, don’t worry about the enemies remaining, just get on after it.

Another symbol puzzle sits alongside Variant Stalker Brakion this time. Get to the back left of the map and you’ll see the solution. I recommend getting rid of all the turrets and bigger enemies before putting the sequence in.

Steps to defeat Brakion and claim the Vexcalibur in Destiny 2

  1. As soon as the shield around the boss drops, focus fire. You’ll only have one minute before it goes back up. Once it is up, you’ll have to start the killing and sequence all again.
  2. Variant Stalker Brakion, Repurposed Mind jumps through a rift once another third is depleted. Follow on again.
  3. The final stage is the damage phase. Forget the rest and unload on the boss. No shields, just raw aggression. You now have Vexcalibur awarded in your inventory.

A few tips on completing node.ovrd.AVALON

Make sure you’re as close to the 1800 Power Level as possible. If you’re below 1790, the mission will actually boost your level to 1790 to give you a fighting chance. If you are entering below the recommended Light level, don’t even try it alone. Get yourself a fire team.

Personally, for my weapon recommendations, I would take one heavy-hitter like a rocket launcher, a good long-range weapon, and a crowd-clearing shotgun. But that’s just how I got my hands on Vexcalibur in Destiny 2.
